UNMC Title IX Office is on Twitter

Title IX education is moving beyond the classroom to Twitter, as part of the Title IX Office’s new social media initiative, Title IX Education and Prevention. Title IX is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in schools, and it helps ensure that UNMC is a safe, inclusive and discrimination-free community.

Every month, the Title IX Education and Prevention initiative will launch a campaign about a particular issue and share resources and information. March’s campaign is about consent. Did you know that consent to sexual activity is a mutual agreement that can be withdrawn by either party at any time? Or that an incapacitated person cannot give valid consent?

Taylor Kratochvil, UNMC Student Senate president, and Hannah Tandon, student senate vice president, suggested the use of social media to communicate Title IX education and resources available at UNMC for students and employees.

Carmen Sirizzotti, UNMC’s Title IX coordinator, said, "Title IX is a critical touchstone of the UNMC community's commitment to creating an environment that is free from discrimination and harassment. I am thrilled that we can expand Title IX education and reach more people using social media."

April’s campaign is sexual assault awareness. Stay up to date by following us on Twitter at @UNMCTitleIX.

If you have questions or would like to report sexual misconduct to UNMC, please email Carmen Sirizzotti, Title IX Coordinator, or reach her by phone at 402-559-2710.
