COM employee of the month

Carolyn Nusrallah and spouse Mark Franz

Editor's note: College of Medicine employees of the month are nominated by college leaders. In nominating Carolyn Nusrallah, Jill Poole, MD, chief of allergy and immunology, said: "Carolyn has had committed service to UNMC for more than 25 years and has had unique roles serving as the first the administrator of pulmonary and critical care, a position which subsequently expanded to include sleep and allergy. Moreover, in the past few years, she was instrumental in helping create a de novo allergy and immunology division while continuing to support the ever-growing division of pulmonary, critical care and sleep. She has great 'sense' and skill in directing the growth and changes needed to support the growth and culture of the workforce she manages."

  • Name: Carolyn Nussrallah
  • Title:  Administrator, UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Allergy and Immunology
  • Hometown: Omaha

Talk about your job and what you like best about it:

I appreciate the culture and atmosphere of working in Internal Medicine and UNMC — where learning is highly valued, so everyone is willing to teach. We always like to complain about constant change, but it is what keeps things interesting!

List three things people may not know about you:

First, I should state that I've been around so long that everyone probably knows more about me than they want to know, so we'll go for a bit of history:

  • My undergraduate degrees are in art history and religious studies
  • My master's degree is in urban studies.
  • I spent two summers in college working on an archeological dig in the Middle East.

I worked with Carolyn for years in IntMed – and she is one of the most respected Administrator, employee – and human being – I have the honor of knowing! She is the "complete package," views things from many perspectives, is always seeking knowledge, and is a gem. Well deserved, indeed.
