Pilot program starting for indoor meetings with food

Beginning Wednesday, March 2, UNMC will pilot a program for students, faculty and staff in groups of 25 or fewer to meet in-person with the option of having food.

In determining how to do this safely, indoor spaces were evaluated to examine air-handling capacity and room capacity. Based on the space evaluation, the guidelines for gatherings with food will be revised on a temporary basis.

This pilot program will be tested and evaluated, and if warranted, the program will be expanded to additional spaces. 

Groups of two to five people:

If vaccinated, up to five people may eat together unmasked and socially distanced.  An event safety plan is not required.

Groups of six to 25 UNMC faculty, staff and/or students:

If vaccinated, up to 25 people may eat together unmasked and socially distanced in the spaces identified below.  An event safety plan is not required for events that follow these guidelines:

  • Groups may gather in the spaces identified in the pilot program below.
  • Face masks are required except when actively eating or drinking.

1. MSC (Sorrell Center) 3001 (25 people)

2. MSC South Atrium (15 people)

  • Not available Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and not during paid events

  • In use for saliva testing Monday-Thursday, 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. but may still be used for meetings during this time.

For any group of more than 25 people:

  • The limit imposed upon on-campus indoor gatherings of our own faculty, staff and students is at 25 individuals. This limit of 25 individuals for indoor gatherings does not apply to UNMC-sanctioned classes, didactic sessions and experiential learning activities. Exceptions to this limit can be sought by filing an event safety planhowever, indoor events larger than 25 individuals are discouraged and must be justified as essential.
  • Food may continue to be served at outdoor gatherings.
