Discounts available for Black History Month events

The Durham Museum presents, "A Territory of Sound: African American Jazz Orchestras in Early 20th Century Omaha."

As part of Black History Month, community partners are offering events and discounts to UNMC faculty, staff and students.

At The Durham Museum, see the new exhibit "A Territory of Sound: African American Jazz Orchestras in Early 20th Century Omaha" on display until Feb. 27. The exhibit focuses on the impact of musicians in territory bands and their roles in supporting the growth of jazz in Omaha and throughout the country.

The museum also will host a Jazz and Blues Saturday throughout the month featuring local jazz and blues artists. The events will take place from noon to  2 p.m. in the Suzanne and Walter Scott Great Hall.

UNMC employees, students and their immediate family receive free museum admission with a valid identification badge.

The University of Nebraska at Omaha will offer a free virtual screening of the movie Black Panther on Feb. 17. Those interested will need to pre-register.
