UNMC Department of Public Safety warns of phone scam

The UNMC Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, is alerting the community of a scam.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, individuals are receiving phone calls that show up with one of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office phone numbers. The phone calls, so far, have come from a male that identifies himself as either Sgt. Gorley or Lt. Jones. The caller then goes on to tell the individual that they have missed jury duty and/or they have a warrant. The male then offers some type of solution that involves a payment.

Several calls already have been made to both UNMC and Nebraska Medicine employees.

The Sheriff’s Office says it’s a scam and individuals should immediately hang up. No government office will request monies over the phone.
