"I think it’s important to instill the need to be a lifelong learner. Today's health profession students have access to a plethora of information, so the old standard of the expert feeding specialized knowledge into students with a tabula rasa is obsolete. Health care information is increasing and changing at exponential rates. As a health care educator, my job is to instill critical-thinking and evidence-synthesis skills to process and make patient-centered, evidence-based decisions. This also take a measure of humility to know what you don't know, even as a senior faculty. Amidst this flood of information, students (and faculty) need a coach, who can develop a relationship with the student to motivate and give effective feedback. This is being more than just an information vending machine, but a partner in professional development working at the level of the learner. I am happy to see that UNMC Faculty Development is now offering sessions on coaching for faculty, applicable to both faculty and students." #HumansOfUNMC
