As a gesture of appreciation for hard work during 2021, the University of Nebraska is granting all leave-eligible employees an additional two days of paid leave, NU leaders announced Tuesday.
While other campuses will receive days off on Dec. 22 and 23, UNMC employees will receive two banked days of paid leave to be used at a time of their choosing, in coordination with their supervisors and UNMC policies. The days must be used before the close of the fiscal year on June 30, 2022.
UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, expressed his appreciation for the faculty and staff at UNMC.
"2021 was a challenging year for everyone," Dr. Gold said. "However, as an academic medical center, UNMC faced unique challenges as we grappled with our mission of education, research and patient care. Our faculty and staff worked hard to keep the university running smoothly and to serve our students and patients in a safe and responsible manner in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. We asked a lot of you. You delivered."
"Our goal is for the University of Nebraska to be an employer of choice — a place where talented people come, stay to build successful careers, and feel valued not only for their work but as human beings," NU System President Ted Carter, UNL Chancellor Ronnie Green, UNO Chancellor Joanne Li, UNK Chancellor Doug Kristensen and Dr. Gold wrote in a joint letter to all employees Tuesday.
"We hope this additional leave gives you an opportunity to rest, relax and enjoy time with loved ones, and that it signals how much we value you and your contributions."
Two banked holidays (prorated by FTE) will be added to “Banked Holiday” leave in Firefly for leave-eligible employees. For hourly employees, the hours will be available in Firefly on Dec. 27; for salaried employees, on Dec. 16.
Thank you for giving us two banked days of paid leave. It is very much appreciated.
Wow, thank you! UNMC is an awesome place to work. Happy Holidays!
Thank you!
This is a wonderful surprise, although when you first read this, it leads you to believe that all employees can take December 22 and 23 off as banked holidays, not just the salaried employees. Read through to the bottom, it says hourly employees won't receive their banked holidays until December 27.
Again, it feels like hourly employees are not valued enough to afford them the same privileges and benefits as salaried. Disappointing.
Thanks so much!!
Thank you to UNMC for their generosity!
As a mother of 3 very active boys (and one daughter in heaven), time off means SO much! Today most families have both parents working, and the extra time we get with our kids is truly the greatest gift of all. Proud to be apart of this organization for almost 15 years. Thank you!
Thank you UNMC!
