Take a break during De-Stress Week

It's Monday, but "donut" stress. Start your week off with a free donut. Stop by the Sorrell Center Alumni Commons from 7:30 to 9 a.m. for a pre-packaged donut and juice while supplies last.

At noon, join fitness specialist Peter Pellerito for an hour-long deep-stretching and strengthening session. Attendees will receive a free resistance band to take home. Pre-registration is required, and only a few spots are left. Sign up here.

Here are the De-Stress Week events happening on the Omaha campus the rest of the week. Unless noted, all events are open to UNMC faculty, staff and students:

Tuesday, Dec. 7:

  • Breakfast on the go, 7:30 a.m., DRC II, Commons Area — Start the morning off with a free muffin (individually packaged) while supplies last.
  • Student snack break, 10 a.m., McGoogan Health Sciences Library, sixth floor by the AskUs desk — McGoogan library staff will provide healthy snacks for students, so take a quick study break and grab a snack (while supplies last). In the library, please enjoy your snack in the study room only.
  • Take and Make: Holiday Ornament, 2 p.m., Sorrell Center Alumni Commons, second floor — Grab a holiday ornament and paint (while supplies last) to make a painted holiday ornament at home.

Wednesday, Dec. 8:

  • Restorative yoga, 12 p.m., Zoom  Join retired registered nurse Deb Welk as she guides participants through a relaxing yoga session incorporating deep stretching and breathing. Registration required to receive the Zoom link. Those who participate will be entered in a give-away.
  • Magic show, 2 p.m., UNMC Instagram and Facebook — Tune in to see a magic show presented by Steven Wengel, MD.

Thursday, Dec. 9:

  • Pediatric donation drive, 11 a.m., Wigton Heritage Center, Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson Atrium, 4th floor — Give back this holiday season by bringing a donation for the Nebraska Medicine pediatric patient unit, and receive a free de-stress kit (while supplies last). See a list of preferred donations. Sponsored by the UNMC Office of Community Engagement.
  • Chancellor’s Holiday Tea, 2 p.m., Wigton Heritage Center, Dr. Leland and Dorothy Olson Atrium, 4th floor — Grab holiday cookies to go (while supplies last) courtesy of UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD.

Friday, Dec. 10:

  • Holiday Skate Day, 11:30 a.m., UNMC Ice Rink — Strap on your skates and celebrate the holidays at the UNMC Ice Rink. Hot chocolate will be available, and participants receive a pair of UNMC gloves (while supplies last).
  • Student Winter Holiday Celebration, 4 p.m., UNMC Ice Rink — Students can stop by the rink for winter snacks and activities (while supplies last). This event is part of the Student Senate Green Space Series.

Students at UNMC locations in Kearney, Norfolk, Scottsbluff and Lincoln should contact their administration to see what is being planned for them.
