Food drive to support Maverick Food Pantry

The Maverick Food Pantry supports the UNMC and University of Nebraska at Omaha communities.

The UNMC Division of Student Success will hold a food drive for the Maverick Food Pantry starting today and running through Dec. 17.

Members of the med center community can participate in the food drive by dropping off items in the Office of Financial Aid suite on the second floor of Williams Science Hall. Donations are accepted weekdays through Dec. 17, between 7:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Additionally, a drive-thru food drive will take place in the Student Life Center parking lot on Dec. 14 and Dec. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The Maverick Food Pantry supports the UNMC and University of Nebraska at Omaha communities with food and personal hygiene products and connections to other area resources. It is located at UNO’s Dodge Campus in the Barbara Weitz Community Engagement Center.

"The Maverick Food Pantry prides itself on improving the overall well-being of students, " said Madeline St. Clair, Maverick Food Pantry coordinator. "When you are hungry, you are not able to think as clearly or perform as well. We often hear stories of how students are struggling, but the simple fact that we exist gives some students peace of mind.

"One UNMC student expressed that they were worried they would not be able to study for upcoming exams because all they could think about was food. Fortunately, they were made aware of the food pantry, able to use this free resource, eat food and do well on their exams."
