Omaha City Council President Pete Festersen visited UNMC in November, meeting with UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, MD, Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external relations, and other leaders.

Festersen also toured iEXCEL in the Davis Global Center.

Festersen, who has served on the council since 2009, said Omaha’s strong history of public-private partnerships is well illustrated at UNMC and that he was pleased to see the advances in educational technology that iEXCEL has brought to campus.

"It is an impressive facility and impressive technology, but what I’m most encouraged about is the training and the engagement of students," Festersen said. "The workforce shortage in health care in Nebraska is acute, and I’m encouraged to see all that’s being done to retain our students, to advance our students and build that health care workforce for the future of Nebraska."
