Name: Jeremy Payne, MD
Medical school you attended/year you graduated: UNMC class of 2021
Residency/fellowship at UNMC: Anesthesiology
Program director: Andrea Dutoit, MD
How long is your training program, and how long have you been at UNMC?
I am currently in year one of four. Including medical school, I have been at UNMC for five years.
What do you like most about your training program?
My co-residents are awesome. They are all very down to earth, smart, easygoing people. I could not have asked for a better group to be with for the next four years!
What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future?
I see two big challenges. The first is addressing the physician shortage, especially filling gaps in primary care and incentivizing trainees to practice in rural areas. Second, teaching residents and fellows about the fundamentals of the U.S. healthcare system so they can play a more active role in improving it.
List some accomplishments that you are proud of:
- In August, I was a co-emcee for Make-A-Wish Nebraska’s Blue Jean Ball. We raised over $400,000 to grant wishes for children with life-threatening diseases!
- Winning my fantasy football league in 2019.
- Matching into my top choice for residency.
- Getting married to a future double doctor (MD/PhD) at the Omaha Zoo in May!
Tell us three things about you that others may not know:
- I have graduated from three of the four Nebraska universities (currently taking requests for University of Nebraska-Kearney degree programs).
- I have a three-legged, "big-boned" senior cat named Meatball.
- I won $100 on "The Price is Right" (off-camera) and got to meet Drew Carey.
Great job Jeremy!!
So proud of you Jeremy!
