An Omaha native and national voice in the prison abolition movement will speak to the UNMC community this month, as the UNMC Department of Human Resources sponsors a two-part virtual event on "The Strategic Changemakers" as part of its Re-Imagining U series.
The event, held virtually at 11:30 a.m. on Sept. 30, will feature Dominique Morgan, national director of Black and Pink, the largest prison abolitionist organization in the United States. Morgan will present via Zoom, and all UNMC and UNO employees are invited. Sign up using Bridge.
During this session, Morgan will discuss becoming a "strategic change maker."
"Many advocates and community leaders depend on the inherent talents they possess," Morgan said. "Raw talent and passion are great starter ingredients, but how do you turn that into an impactful journey as a change maker in your community? This session will support you in building an advocacy profile that reflects your values, developing powerful community accountability agreements and radical self-care for the caretaker and much more."
Morgan is the recipient of the "Young, Black and Influential" Award for Advocacy, Omaha Chamber Young Professionals Change Maker Award, the NAACP Freedom Fighter Award, and most recently the face of the new Apple’s New Pride Rainbow watch band.
