Today’s barbecue will feature vaccination clinic

The 2021 #WeAreUNMC BBQ will be held today from 3-6 p.m. at the Ruth and Bill Scott Student Plaza.

UNMC faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the all-campus BBQ. Attendees with a UNMC ID badge can enjoy free food and giveaways, music and backyard games. All are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets.

In addition, the Douglas County Health Department will provide a COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the event for any faculty, staff, students and their family members ages 12 and over still in need of a COVID-19 vaccine. All three vaccines (Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson) will be available at the event.

The clinic also is able to give third doses of Moderna/Pfizer to individuals who identify as immunocompromised. (Third doses for immunocompromised individuals can be administered 28 days or more after completion of the second dose of Moderna or Pfizer.  There is no current recommendation for Johnson & Johnson additional doses.)

The third dose only is for immunocompromised individuals, defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as people who have :

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

People who are receiving a second or third dose should bring their COVID-19 vaccination card so the dose can be recorded.

See more information on third doses for immunocompromised individuals.

This event is hosted by the UNMC Student Senate, the Student Life Inclusion and Diversity Office and the UNMC Department of Human Resources, sponsored in part by Metro Credit Union and GreenSlate Management, in collaboration with the UNMC Department of Strategic Communications, the Office of Community Engagement, the Center for Healthy Living and the UNMC Bookstore.

In the event of inclement weather the day of, giveaways and to-go meals will be available for pick-up in the Truhlsen Events Center in the Sorrell building. The vaccine clinic also will move to the events center.

This is very nice that you had this BBQ, We definitely needed something like this to lift everyone's spirits. I'm sure everyone had a good time. But working the night shift it seems we always get left out of all the fun activities. When my 24 Campus Security Officers heard about the BBQ and they all felt left out especially when they saw the evening officers with the T shirts that were given away. I have always tried to attend all of the events but since we switched to working 10 hour days it's very hard to attend and to get enough sleep. Thanks for listen to me Sgt. Jeffery Ebel
