On Sept. 1, the Child Health Research Institute (CHRI) will convene the Pediatric Cancer Research Symposium, sponsored by the CHRI’s Pediatric Cancer Research Group (PCRG).
The event will highlight the power of collaboration between academia, health care institutions, government and the community in preventing, treating and curing pediatric cancers. The day’s highlights will include:
- A dynamic panel discussion with leaders from UNMC and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center regarding "Collaboration between Academia, Healthcare Institutions and Government: How to Apply Lessons Learned from the COVID-19 Pandemic to Pediatric Cancer";
- A presentation from Eleanor Rogan, PhD, professor and chair, of the UNMC Department of Environmental, Agricultural & Occupational Health in the College of Public Health, on "Understanding the Effects of Agrichemicals on Children’s Health"; and
- A keynote presentation, "Advancing Treatment for Neuroblastoma Through Collaboration: A Pediatric Oncology Paradigm," by Sue Cohn, MD, professor of pediatrics, chief, section of pediatric hematology/oncology and stem cell transplantation, and director, clinical sciences, at the University of Chicago Medical Center.
The afternoon session will include scientific presentations from PCRG investigators, including:
- Melissa Acquazzino, MD, assistant professor, hematology/oncology, pediatrics; medical director, Survivorship Clinic, Children’s Hospital & Medical Center;
- Hamid Band, MD, PhD, Elizabeth Bruce Professor of Cancer Research, Eppley Institute;
- Kate Hyde, PhD, associate professor, biochemistry and molecular biology;
- Aaron Mohs, PhD, associate professor, pharmaceutical sciences; and
- Paul Trippier, PhD, associate professor, pharmaceutical sciences.
