Dunkin’s signature latte is made with warm frothy milk and espresso then piled high with whip cream and a delicious drizzle of caramel.
Faculty, staff and students who enjoy sipping on the over-the-top coffee confection don’t have to go far with the opening of a Dunkin’ franchise now on the UNMC campus.
Located inside the Wigton Heritage Center on the fourth floor of Wittson Hall, Dunkin’ is open from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The franchise is not open on weekends.
A limited menu still offers plenty of fan favorites, including those glazed and frosted donuts (in strawberry, chocolate and maple), blueberry and coffee cake muffins and croissants, which are baked daily in house.
"Our baker comes in around midnight and bakes everything fresh for the next morning," said district manager Clark Cull.
The store also offers a variety of breakfast sandwiches, including their popular power breakfast sandwich featuring a veggie egg white omelet with spinach, peppers and onions, topped with turkey sausage and white cheddar cheese and served on multigrain bread.
A variety of iced, hot and frozen coffees and teas are available and include the ever-popular caramel iced macchiato, hot chai tea and frozen matcha latte.
"We also serve just plain old black coffee," said Michelle Woods, restaurant manager.
"It’s such a good fit for this end of campus," said Rick Boldt, senior manager in the UNMC Office of Business and Finance. "Dunkin’ has such a variety of baked goods, their sandwiches and drinks, it’s a welcome addition to the campus community."
Emily McElroy, dean of the Leon S. McGoogan Health Sciences Library, agrees.
"As we prepared to renovate the library, we conducted multiple student surveys showing strong interest in coffee with food service," McElroy said. "I think everyone will enjoy it."
McElroy added that having the franchise located next to the Wigton Heritage Center and its exhibits offers a great meeting or study space.
Woods said her staff will keep the dining space adjacent to the franchise clean and tidy, adding that in an effort to be ecofriendly the store only serves drinks and food items in recyclable containers.
"We are excited to be here and to serve the UNMC community," she said.
Woods encouraged customers to download the Dunkin’ app. Once an order is received, she said the staff immediately begins working on it and the product is placed in a pink tray on the counter waiting for pick-up.
"It’s a quick and easy way to grab and go without having to wait at the counter," she said.
The franchise also offers catering, Woods said, with at least two days' notice given.
