Number of trainees: Generally one to three.
How long have you been the program director? From 2006 to 2014, and again from 2020 to the present.
What made you choose to become the program director? It gives a great opportunity to assure the total educational experience for a new member of our discipline is as high-quality as it can be. We have magnificent training opportunities at UNMC!
What challenges do you foresee in graduate medical education in the future? There is always a tension between providing excellent, organic education/training and assuring that the documentation satisfies the certifying organizations.
What are the strengths of your training program?
- Wide variety of clinical venues and specialties for geriatric medicine fellows to interact with.
- Opportunity to work with high-functioning, skilled and committed interprofessional teams.
- The teaching faculty in our division are superb and dedicated educators.
List some accomplishments that you are proud of: Many of our program’s graduates have gone on to become faculty members in geriatric medicine and stellar practitioners in the community.

- Because I grew up in Southern California, I would occasionally encounter TV and movie “stars.” (That’s only one thing about me. I am not that interesting.)
