Ruxana Sadikot, MD, will join the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine on June 1 as chief of the division of pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
Dr. Sadikot has served as a professor in Emory University’s Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine section since 2014. She also is section chief of pulmonary and critical medicine at the Atlanta VA Medical Center.
“We are looking forward to Dr. Sadikot joining us in a few months as our new division chief,” said Debra J. Romberger, MD, Henry J. Lehnhoff Professor and chair of the UNMC Department of Internal Medicine. “She has great clinical experience, a passion for education and mentoring and a strong research background. She will be a wonderful asset to the department and UNMC.”
Dr. Romberger said she is grateful to Joe Sisson, MD, for his years of leadership as division chief.
“Joe has had an amazing career, leading the division through much growth. He is a dedicated teacher and has taught so many of our students, residents and fellows the nuances of pulmonary physiology, especially in the ICU setting. He has had a very successful NIH research career and provided valuable mentorship to so many junior colleagues. We will celebrate his great work later this year when we are able to gather in person.”
Dr. Sadikot said she was impressed by the strong reputation of both the division and UNMC.
“I am honored and delighted to be joining this vibrant division,” Dr. Sadikot said. “It’s one of the premier programs in the country with dedicated, committed faculty. There is an emphasis on basic and clinical programs within the division that integrates translational research.”
She also cited the division’s renowned expertise in lung biology, its strong fellowship program and its expansion of such signature critical care programs as lung transplantation and multi-specialty clinics.
“It’s been an unprecedented year with COVID,” Dr. Sadikot said. “Although the pandemic posed multiple challenges, the division has shown resilience. Its team approach and collaborative environment is evidenced by outstanding work by critical care teams, and public health and infectious disease experts and others. They’re doing cutting-edge work and making major contributions to transformative health care approaches and translational research.”
On behalf of the Department of Pediatrics and the Child Health Research Institute, welcome to UNMC Dr. Sadikot.
