House Officer Spotlight: Kelsey Neuhalfen, MD

To celebrate the Department of Anesthesiology's House Officer Appreciation Week, Feb. 22-26, 2021, we meet one house officer from each class and learn a bit more about what makes them tick. Enjoy!

Name: Kelsey Neuhalfen, MD
Year: CA2
Medical School: University of Nebraska Medical Center
Hometown: Fort Calhoun, NE

I am pursuing anesthesiology because: We have the unique opportunity to form trusting relationships with our patients in brief, singular encounters. The cause and effect relationship of our medical interventions is tangible quickly, which is incredibly gratifying. Working in the operating room creates a high-stakes environment that I love!

In my time here, I have most enjoyed: The relationships I have formed with my cohorts. I am fortunate to be surrounded by a truly amazing anesthesia family.

Three things you may not know about me are:

  • I made my television debut when in diapers, posing for a commercial promoting HVAC units. My 'career' ended a few years later after chickening out during the filming of an Oscar Mayer Wiener commercial.
  • I am passionate about cooking/baking and thoroughly enjoy all things outdoorsy.
  • I have the most supportive husband, two beautiful daughters, and an Aussiedoodle.
