Improved internet access for employee personal devices

UNMC students, faculty, and staff currently have three Wi-Fi choices while on campus.

They are:

• WORKFORCE_BYOD, which requires a device to be Mobile Device Managed through the Intelligent Hub;
• the guest network, which is accessible by either logging in with Facebook or registering a temporary account; and
• the eduroam network, which is accessible by logging in with UNMC credentials.

Both WORKFORCE_BYOD and guest networks will soon be replaced, but eduroam will remain unchanged.

The first change will be the guest network. Beginning today at 5 p.m., the current guest Wi-Fi will be replaced with MedCenter Guest. This new network will allow users to access the internet with the following methods:

• Using UNMC credentials, which will grant access for several months at a time or per session
• A Facebook account, which will grant a 12-hour session
• Registering a temporary account, which will grant a 12-hour session

The second change, which currently does not have an implementation date, will be the depreciation of the WORKFORCE_BYOD network. Individuals who use the Intelligent Hub/ Hub Mobile Device Management will no longer automatically connect to a network and will be encouraged to use the MedCenter Guest network. The Intelligent Hub must be used to access organizational resources such as Microsoft Outlook and Teams and therefore the IT department encourages individuals to keep the settings on their smartphones as is.
