Dr. Suh to open new McGoogan speaker series

The McGoogan Health Sciences Library will begin the new McGoogan Library Speaker Series, highlighting faculty, staff and clinician authors from UNMC and Nebraska Medicine.

The series will begin on Feb. 16 at noon with Donny Suh, MD, John & Irene Graether Endowed Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology, giving a presentation called “How Do You Find Resilience in Healthcare through Inspiration, and Where do You Find it?”

The UNMC/Nebraska Medicine community can register for the presentation through Engage and the general public can register here.

Drawing from stories in his autobiography, “Catching A Star: My Story of Hope,” Dr. Suh will share his journey of struggle, adaptation and accomplishment, as well as the hope he gains by interacting with patients and participating in medical missions around the world.

The series will continue on April 29 with Lydia Kang, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine-general medicine and author of young adult fiction, adult fiction, non-fiction and poetry, including the upcoming novel “Patient Zero.”

“Our goal is to highlight the breadth of talent and diverse number of voices present on the UNMC campus,” said Carrie Meyer, assistant professor at the library. “Our faculty, staff and students have amazing stories and perspectives, and we want to give them a platform to share those with the broader campus community and the general public.

“It’s our hope that community members will attend these talks to learn more about topics of interest, topics that are relevant to lived experiences, and also see different facets of their coworkers, caregivers and the intellectual minds of Omaha.”

Lectures have a 300-connection capacity and will be recorded. They will be posted at Digital Commons following the presentation.
