Redesign under way for UNMC website

A redesign is underway of UNMC’s primary website, unmc.edu, with the help of mStoner, a Chicago-based design firm that specializes in higher education.

“The goal of the new design is a dynamic site that better represents the transformative work of UNMC,” said Stacie Hamel, director of projects and digital strategy in the Department of Strategic Communications.

Look for a new unmc.edu homepage and the first few subsites to debut later this year, followed by groups of subsites at the end of 2021 and into 2022.

Included in the new design will be a streamlined information architecture and navigation for a site that is modern and easy to use, while providing clear user journeys for prospective students and other audiences.

Over recent months, mStoner has conducted discovery meetings with about three dozen groups across UNMC and now is working on designs based on the results of that discovery. Once designs are finalized and coded into templates in our content-management system, Cascade Server, the work of migrating content to the new designs will begin.

The UNMC website contains about 17,000 pages across more than 200 subsites. As part of the redesign project, the content of all subsites will be audited in order to identify and delete
outdated, duplicative or unnecessary content.

Training in writing for the web, working with the new design, and choosing dynamic photography will be offered.
