How I fell in love with interventional radiology: Ever since I was in medical school, I decided to take my time looking for what would be my future specialty. I gravitated toward procedural specialties, but I also wanted to learn more about integrating imaging with pathology and its diagnostic and therapeutic interventions. Interventional radiology seemed to fit what I was looking for. Vascular and interventional radiology remains one of the few specialties that many medical students, early residents and even some non-radiology faculty are not exposed to on a wide enough basis for them to understand, although those who understand its versatility appreciate how vital it is for a wide variety of patients. Since it is a relatively newer field, it has more room for expansion through research and other clinical application than some other specialties.
