Jan Wells

Jana Wells is a new faculty member in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions.

  • Name: Jana Wells
  • Hometown: St. Paul, Nebraska
  • Title and department at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine: Assistant professor, medical nutrition education/Clinical nutrition supervisor

Research/professional interests:

My current research interests include nutrition and neurological disorders (particularly epilepsy and Parkinson’s disease) and nutrition in adult critical care.

How I fell in love with nutrition: I have always been interested in health and nutrition, but my passion in the field really grew after taking nutrition classes in college. The ability of nutrition to assist in the prevention, treatment and palliation of illness always astounds me. I hope to share this love of the field with students and continue research to push our profession forward.

Degrees:

  • MS, medical sciences interdepartmental area, UNMC
  • RD, Mayo School of Health Sciences, Rochester, Minnesota

Memberships:

  • Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Nebraska Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • American Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I’m nearing completion of the Medical Sciences Interdepartmental Area PhD program with a prospective graduation date of May 2021.
  • I have a seven-foot fiddle-leaf fig named Fergie. She lives in our living room and is quite needy.
  • There are almost always peanut M&Ms in our house.

Congrats, Jana! I have had the privilege to work with Jana (and many of the other outstanding clinicians in Nutrition) in both multidisciplinary clinics and inpatient service provision. Jana is always ready and willing to collaborate with our team. And, I am SO glad to know that an RD eats peanut M&Ms!

Great to have you in CAHP Jana. I just got a fiddle-leaf fig. I may need your help to keep it alive! Welcome to UNMC.
