New faculty spotlight: Iris Gipson

Iris Gipson

Iris Gipson is a new faculty member in the UNMC College of Allied Health Professions.

  • Name: Iris Gipson
  • Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas
  • Title and department at UNMC: Assistant professor, UNMC Division of Physician Assistant Education

Research/professional interests:

  • Pediatric dermatology. I would be interested in participating in research associated with atopic dermatitis or infantile hemangiomas.

How I fell in love with education: Teaching has always been a vital aspect of my career. Whether it was training new graduates in clinic or precepting students during their clerkships, I have always assumed a role of mentorship in my professional career. I have always enjoyed my experiences with the PA students and being part of their professional growth during such a critical aspect of their training. My role as a preceptor really invigorated my aspirations to be involved in PA education. I am excited to be provided the opportunity to give back to the profession and to be involved in shaping future PA colleagues.

Degrees:

  • Master of Physician Assistant Studies, University of North Texas Health Science Center, Fort Worth, Texas, May 2009
  • Bachelor of Science, biomedical science, Texas A & M Corpus Christi University, Corpus Christi, Texas, May 2006

Memberships:

  • American Academy of Physician Assistants
  • Nebraska Academy of Physician Assistants
  • Society for Pediatric Dermatology
  • Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I enjoying couponing and finding unique ways to save my family money.
  • I enjoy running in 5K and 10Ks, when I am able to make time for conditioning and training.
  • My husband and I enjoy going to the casinos.
