Follow up to Lot 6 incident

Lot 6, the parking structure at 41st and Harney Streets, was closed Monday afternoon and night because of a person dealing with a mental health emergency.

Nebraska Medicine staff and leadership assisted Omaha authorities throughout the 10-hour incident. The person, neither an employee nor a patient, was safely brought in from the parking garage. The garage re-opened late Monday night.

This incident reaffirms the need for robust mental health resources in the community. Nebraska Medicine’s Psychiatric Emergency Services unit is due to open next month. UNMC has free services available to students as well as house officers and faculty and staff, while Nebraska Medicine offers a number of private counseling resources to colleagues at no cost.

Great job to all involved. True heroes, especially during this pandemic.

Thank you for the updates on the status of the parking lot and to stay clear of the area throughout the incident. I received auto-phone calls, text messages, and emails. It was much appreciated.

Lots of misinformation out there; so happy to know the individual is getting the help they need and that it wasn't a Nebraska Medicine employee as was circulating through the "grapevine".

Great job to all who helped this person! This pandemic is hard in many aspects other than just the physical illness it is causing, more to some than others. Glad our staff and leadership helped this person in a manner that they weren't hurt. I'm proud to be a small part of a wonderful institution!

Glad for a somewhat peaceful resolution.
