In sports, learning, practicing and mastering the fundamentals can make all the difference in the game’s outcome.
The same holds true during a pandemic, which is why public health experts stress effective nonpharmaceutical interventions. For months, you’ve heard them trumpet the importance of wearing a mask, washing hands frequently and staying at least six feet away from others.
These basic fundamentals are daily expectations on UNMC’s campuses. To further safeguard the medical center community, campus leaders have outlined additional fundamentals to slow the spread of COVID-19 and keep the community safe. In all, UNMC outlines seven fundamentals of COVID-19 control:
- Work and study from home when you can
- Check the COVID app before coming to campus
- Stay away from campus if you screen positive
- Wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose
- Remain six feet away from others
- Wash hands frequently (with soap and water, for at least 20 seconds)
- Disinfect your personal and classroom space
New and current students will be asked to sign the UNMC Student Commitment to support these fundamentals, as well as practice them outside their educational environments. Faculty and staff also will be asked to follow the public health measures to protect themselves and the entire community by signing their own attestation. Watch UNMC Today for details.
In the end, coaches and public health officials know that winning teams focus on the basic fundamentals.
