Facilitators are urgently needed for the fall Student Success Orientation Day, which will be held remotely on Aug. 19.
UNMC students, faculty and staff are being asked to serve as facilitators. Volunteers will be trained during the week of Aug. 10-15 to take part in the event.
“The process will be simple,” said Channing Bunch, UNMC director of recruitment and student engagement. “Volunteers will participate in icebreaker events and show new students a video of the campus.”
Between Aug. 10 and 15, facilitators will attend a Zoom training session that will be 30 to 45 minutes long. (The schedule for the training sessions will be determined shortly.) Then they will participate in orientation day from 7:30-10 a.m. on Aug. 19.
“We will help the volunteers with everything,” Bunch said. “It’s mostly a matter of being friendly, asking easy questions from a script and engaging with the students. You will learn how to access Zoom and share your screen and how to open a PDF and PowerPoint in Zoom — it will be easy for our volunteers.”
Those interested in participating can email Bunch.
I am looking forward to helping out at the event, but you don't have to have a background in medicine or education. We appreciate all the faculty and staff for assisting with welcoming students to our campus!
