COVID-19 forced the medical center to postpone its recycling event, but it is being rescheduled. Please visit the LiveGreen website for details on what items will or will not be accepted and the associated costs. To keep volunteers safe, we have new, non-negotiable rules for the electronic recycling/paper shredding event.
Who: All Nebraska Medicine, UNMC, Clarkson College and UNO faculty, staff and students are invited to this event. Valid I.D. Badge required. This event is not open to the public.
What: Bring household confidential documents to be shredded, electronic equipment, single use/alkaline batteries and techno-trash for recycling. Pop tabs and prescription eyeglasses can be dropped off as well.
When: Aug. 4 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 5 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: UNMC Grounds Building (annex 23) in Lot 17, 4650 Jones St. See a map.
If the person attending the recycling event or anyone living in their household have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or are currently running a fever, coughing or displaying other symptoms of COVID-19, they cannot attend.
People dropping off items must:
- Be a UNMC, Nebraska Medicine, UNO or Clarkson College employee or student carrying their I.D. badge;
- Wear a mask that covers their mouth and nose;
- Have recyclable items segregated by category; containers with mixed items will not be accepted;
- Have paper in totes, boxes or paper bags (boxes and/or totes can be returned to guest);
- Have small items in totes, boxes or bags (boxes and/or totes can be returned to guest);
- Have food pantry donations clearly marked;
- Stay in their car and allow attendants to unload the items from the car; and
- Turn off car ventilation system while attendants are unloading.
Attendants will wear masks, gloves, safety googles, and also will not attend if they are presenting symptoms/been diagnosed.
With the exception of some items, the shredding/recycling services are provided to the campus community for free. Those dropping off recyclables are asked to bring a donation item for the Maverick Food Pantry (MFP) on UNO’s campus, which serves both UNO and UNMC students who are food insecure. The MFP is looking for specific items, found here. Cash and/or requested gift cards also will be accepted.
