Osteogenesis Imperfecta Conference to be held virtually this weekend

From left, Maegen Wallace, MD, and Paul Esposito, MD, from the UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, will speak at the conference.

The UNMC community is invited to take part in the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation (OIF) National Conference, which will be held virtually July 10-12.

The conference will include presentations from two UNMC Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation faculty: Paul Esposito, MD, professor, and Maegen Wallace, MD, assistant professor.

Drs. Esposito and Wallace lead a multidisciplinary, patient-centered Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) clinic at Children’s Hospital & Medical Center, one of 14 centers in the Brittle Bone Disorders (BBD) Consortium, led by Baylor University. Dr. Wallace is principal investigator for Omaha’s clinic, which first enrolled patients in the study in 2015.

The OIF National Conference will include presentations on the basics of OI and genetics, managing chronic pain and fatigue for children and adults with OI, adult OI health issues, and dental issues associated with OI. The event will also include multiple panels, a meet and greet for parents, and a social hour.

This year’s event will kick off with a virtual OIF Walk-n-Wheel, where participants can walk-n-wheel around a local park, neighborhood or their own living room to raise funds in support of the Osteogenesis Imperfecta community. Dr. Wallace is co-chair of this year’s OIF Walk-n-Wheel. See more information about the fundraiser.

  1. Matthew Sandbulte says:

Best wishes on the OIF conference, Drs. Wallace and Esposito. Unfortunate that it couldn't be held in person in Omaha as planned, but I'm sure you're all making the best of it.
