Gary Yee, Pharm.D., to lead Office of Faculty Affairs

Gary Yee, Pharm.D.

Gary Yee, Pharm.D., associate vice chancellor for academic affairs and professor of pharmacy practice and science in the UNMC College of Pharmacy, will also serve as the new leader for the UNMC Office of Faculty Affairs.

The appointment, announced by Senior Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dele Davies, M.D., is effective July 1.

About Dr. Yee

Dr. Yee has served as an elected officer in numerous professional organizations and is a past president of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy. He is one of the editors of the textbook “Pharmacotherapy: A Pathophysiologic Approach,” which is used in nearly all schools of pharmacy.

At UNMC, Dr. Yee served for 10 years as the associate dean for academic affairs in the UNMC College of Pharmacy. Prior to that, he was department chair of pharmacy practice and science.

Dr. Yee has served for many years on various education committees, including the Education Council and the E-Learning Steering Committee. Read Dr. Yee’s bio.

Dr. Yee took over the role on an interim basis in September 2019 when Kari Simonsen, M.D., resigned to serve as the chair of the UNMC Department of Pediatrics and pediatrician-in-chief and senior vice president of pediatric services for Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.

“As we navigate through the new educational realm in which we find ourselves, strong leaders are especially needed. Dr. Yee’s skills and leadership experiences are congruent with the mission of Faculty Affairs — to assist faculty with teaching skills, mentoring resources, professional development opportunities, coaching, and research and scholarship resources,” Dr. Davies said. “His leadership will prove pivotal in ensuring faculty have easy access to resources that enhance their professional success in all areas of our academic mission.”

Dr. Yee has a strong history of mentoring faculty, particularly during his past role as a department chair in the UNMC College of Pharmacy. Additionally, Dr. Yee serves as the course coordinator for a UNMC College of Pharmacy professional development course, which introduces and develops the professional and leadership skills necessary to work as part of an interprofessional health care team. He also served as the first director of the ACCP Research and Scholarship Academy program, a one-year certificate program to help clinical pharmacy faculty members develop their research and scholarly abilities.

Dr. Yee’s vision for Faculty Affairs is to partner with the colleges and units to develop campus-wide programs and resources that guide and support faculty members to achieve their professional goals.

“A university is only as strong as its people — faculty, staff and students. I look forward to continuing the work of Dr. Simonsen in the Office of Faculty Affairs to support faculty,” Dr. Yee said. “The new Faculty Commons space in the library, opening this fall, will provide a welcoming place for faculty members to access the resources offered by the Office of Faculty Affairs.”
