Graduated SRNAs to join Nebraska Medicine and beyond

Five Student Registered Nurse Anesthetists (SRNAs) who filled their clinical requirements alongside Department of Anesthesiology faculty and staff graduated May 8 with a Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice (DNAP) degree from Bryan College of Health Sciences.

Bryan’s DNAP program 36-month program features clinical experience early on and throughout the program. Students rotate through multiple community hospitals, but have a designated “home hospital” in Lincoln, Kearney or Omaha.

The graduates and their immediate plans are:

Tara Dickey, Methodist Hospital in Omaha
Lyndsie LaFluer, Nebraska Medicine
Andy Maasdam, Providence Health in Centralia, Wash.
Erin Meier, Nebraska Medicine
Becky VanWinkle, Nebraska Medicine

“Starting as a brand new SRNA at Nebraska Medicine was overwhelming and intimidating, to say the least,” said VanWinkle, who plans to join Nebraska Medicine in September 2020. “The CRNAs at Nebraska Medicine are the best of the best, and it was difficult to imagine myself as a part of this amazing team.

Through my training on campus, I was able to grow my confidence and skill set. I am proud to be joining one of the best anesthesia groups in the nation after graduating from an incredible CRNA program through Bryan College of Health Sciences.”

SRNAs training at UNMC can rely upon the CRNA mentors and the CRNA Education Committee for guidance on their journey to becoming nurse anesthetists.

“A pandemic isn't even big enough to distract us from the recognition these SRNAs deserve,” said CRNA Emily Glaser, who is also a member of the CRNA Education Committee. “We are proud of the SRNA’s outstanding patient care, receptiveness to learning, tenacity and teamwork.

We are grateful for all the mentorship provided by clinicians and educators at Nebraska Medicine. Together, you all help make this place truly special. Best wishes graduates!”
