New faculty spotlight: Jamie Wilson, M.D.

Jamie Wilson, M.D.

Jamie Wilson, M.D., is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Jamie Wilson, M.D.
  • Hometown: Bournemouth, United Kingdom
  • Current positions: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Neurosurgery; neurosurgeon and co-director of the Comprehensive Spine Program, Nebraska Medicine

Research/professional interests:

  • Minimally invasive spine surgery
  • Adult deformity surgery
  • Geriatric spine surgery and use of frailty measures in spine care

How I fell in love with neurological surgery: Being an early adopter of new technologies, I was always fascinated in the application of stereotactic navigation in cranial and spine surgery. I have since developed research interests in the application of artificial intelligence and statistical modeling to improve outcomes in spine care. I relish the opportunity to introduce the most up-to-date technologies and techniques in the way I teach the next generation of neurosurgeons and provide extraordinary clinical care for our patients.

Education:

  • M.D., University of Oxford, United Kingdom
  • Residency at University of Southampton and Leeds Teaching Hospitals, both in the United Kingdom
  • Fellowship in complex spine at the University of Toronto

Professional memberships:

  • Society of British Neurosurgeons
  • North American Spine Society
  • Congress of Neurological Surgeons (pending)

Three things people may not know about me:

  • I’m a big supporter of AFC Bournemouth in the English Premier League.
  • During undergrad, I was a DJ with my own radio show on Oxford Student Radio. I once was the warm-up act for Pharrell Williams.
  • I am a big aviation enthusiast and enjoy nothing more than taking my family to large air shows.

Hi Dr Walburn – thank you for your comment. The Comprehensive Spine Program treats all aspects of spine pathology and the treatment team encompasses providers from Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Pain specialists, Physiatrists and Rehabilitation teams. We work closely together to ensure patients get the most appropriate treatment at the right time, and they can stay within our network for all facets of their treatment. At present, the program is tailored for adult patients only.
