If you choose to use your own materials, you will need:

  • 2 layers of cotton fabric: 7″ x 4.5″ (child measurements)
  • Elastic or an elastic alternative (i.e. hair tie, shoelace, etc.)

Project Steps:
1.Put right sides of cotton and flannel fabric together.
2.Starting at the center of bottom edge, sew to the first corner, stop. Sew the elastic or elastic alternative with the knot out into the corner. A few stiches forward and back will hold this.
3.Sew to the next corner, stop, and bring the other end of that same elastic or elastic alternative to the corner and sew a few stiches forward and back.
4.Now sew across that top of the mask to the next corner, again put elastic or elastic alternative with the knot out.
5.Sew to next corner and sew in the other end of the same elastic or elastic alternative.
6.Sew across the bottom leaving about 1.5″ to 2″ open. Stop, cut the thread. Turn inside out.
7.Pin three tucks on each side of the mask. Make sure the tucks are the same direction.
8.Sew around the edge of the mask twice.
9.If you have participated in the “Take and Make bags,” once completed with the masks please return in the provided bag to JOANN Fabrics in Bellevue. Please place in bin marked “Take and Make Completed Masks” in the Creator’s Studio.
10.If you made masks with us in store, please place completed masks in the “Completed Mask” bin based upon adult or child pattern.
