Phone system updates to cause temporary downtime

To address the issues that end users are experiencing with the phone system, the telecom team will be performing updates and repairs to the UNMC and Nebraska Medical Center phone system.

The work will begin at 11:30 p.m. today and go until 5 a.m. Saturday.

All users will experience an approximate 30-minute outage from 12:30 to 1 a.m. Saturday, April 25, and then again from 3:30 to 4 a.m.

All departments should make alternate arrangements for phone service during this outage. Currently, IT is coordinating alternative communications with departments.

A Zoom meeting has been set up to report issues or concerns during the outage. The Zoom link, dial-in number, and meeting ID are below:

Impacts during phone system downtime:

  • In an emergency, dial 911
  • The security dispatch center can be reached during the downtime at 402-559-5111
  • Voalte phones will have a shortcut key option to dial two Voalte phones, 531-557-5553 and 531-557-5554, located in the security dispatch center during the outage
  • Security officers and facilities staff can reach the security dispatch center via radio during this time
  • The Medical Communication Center will be down during this outage. Departments cannot depend on the MCC to answer their calls during the outage
  • Blue light phones will not work during the outage

Items not impacted by this system upgrade:

  • Panic alarms, Voalte phones (Voalte to Voalte) and intrusion alarms
  • The HUGS system for infants
  • Bellevue Medical Center
