College of Allied Health Professions announces awards

The College of Allied Health Professions (CAHP) has announced the winners of its annual awards.

Winners will be honored at the annual CAHP Employee Recognition event, which will be held in August.

Award winners are:

• Elizabeth Wellsandt, D.P.T., Ph.D., assistant professor in the UNMC Division of Physical Therapy Education, will receive the Significance in Research Junior Faculty Award. This award is based on accomplishments, publications and research that adds significant knowledge to the scientific, clinical, or educational community, and contributions to the CAHP.
• Alisha Wright, radiographer at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney, was selected as the recipient of the Excellence in Clinical Teaching Award. This award recognizes a CAHP clinical instructor for excellence in clinical teaching and significant contributions to the educational development of future allied health professionals.
• Kim Michael, director of the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program, associate professor and Anderson Distinguished Professor, will be honored with the Excellence in Teaching Award. Recipients of this award hold a faculty appointment in the CAHP and demonstrate outstanding skills in directing learning, advising students, and facilitating effective interaction between faculty and students and between students.
• Glenda Woscyna, assistant professor in the UNMC Division of Medical Nutrition Education, will be recognized for Outstanding Service to the Allied Health Professions. This award recognizes extraordinary contributions in health care, education or service that result in the significant advancement of the college and the allied health professions.

Each spring, in conjunction with the awards ceremony, the CAHP sponsors an Evidence-Based Healthcare Forum. The 2020 “in-person” forum has been canceled due to social-distancing requirements to address the outbreak of COVID-19. The poster portion of the forum is moving to an asynchronous, virtual format, and posters will be available for viewing electronically at the end of April on the forum website.

The forum highlights student posters in three categories: educational exhibits, critical reviews and research. This year, 151 students will participate with 86 posters.
