Healing Arts Program highlights opera’s ‘Creativity Prompts’

Amy Jenson, director, Healing Arts Program

The Healing Arts Program’s longtime partner, Opera Omaha, is providing daily “Creativity Prompts” to provide a moments of escape and respite to the Omaha community in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Healing Arts Program at UNMC at Nebraska Medicine exists to support and comfort people during difficult times,” said Amy Jenson, program director. “To help alleviate stress from staff and students, Healing Arts regularly partners with Opera Omaha to provide performances and creativity workshops. There were several Opera Omaha performances and workshops planned in the coming months, and those events have been postponed.”

“The Opera Omaha Holland Community Opera Fellowship has initiated a creative response to COVID-19,” she said. “They have developed a collection of daily Creativity Prompts to offer the community moments of creativity, connection, and joy, with new offerings each week.”

The effort began last week, with “Life is Art,” an activity that takes only takes four minutes and 33 seconds. Life is Art encourages you to connect to the music in nature by immersing yourself in fresh air, using active listening, and unplugging from the digital world.

The Creativity Prompts are posted daily on the Opera Omaha blog and Facebook page.
