Community partners offer learning from afar

With a majority of business and organizations closed due to
COVID-19, UNMC’s community partners are stepping up to provide families with different virtual learning opportunities.

These include:

The Durham Museum:

  • Digital learning: Offered daily (Monday-Friday) at 10 a.m. All digital learning programs are provided at no cost and offer unique opportunities for learners of all ages. Taught by educators, these interactive classes follow national and state social studies standards. These programs can be accessed via ZOOM and pre-registration is required. You can register and view upcoming learning opportunities here.
  • Mini gallery talks: Offered periodically on The Durham’s Facebook page. You can view their first gallery talk “Pulitzer Prize Photographs” here.
  • Durham Museum podcast: Using museum historians and topic experts, explore the fascinating, funny, heartwarming and heartbreaking history of Omaha. Listen to the first five episodes here.

Fontenelle Forest:

  • From the forest: Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday at 3 p.m., Fontenelle will post a different themed segment on their Facebook page. These may include different informational videos or fun facts.

Joslyn Art Museum:

  • Virtual Tour of Fact and Fiction in Contemporary Photography: Now available on their website and Facebook page. The mobile tour of the exhibit “Fact and Fiction in Contemporary Photography” features images of the art referenced at each audio stop so it can still be experienced at home.
  • Art Adventures LIVE!: Every Friday from March 27 to April 24 at 10:30 a.m., join studio programs manager Andy Smith for an art-making lesson. Materials and upcoming projects can be found here.
  • Curator-led virtual gallery talks: Offered periodically on the Joslyn’s Facebook and Instagram. Listen to the Joslyn’s curators give short talks about works on view in the galleries, accompanied by video of the art.

Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo:

  • Do the Zoo from Home: Each day, the zoo will provide an interactive video and activity (Pre K – 12) for families. Past videos and activities are located on the zoo’s website.
