UNMC’s primary care program is the 12th best in the country, according to the 2021 ranking of the nation’s top graduate schools by U.S. News & World Report.
In other new rankings, the UNMC College of Pharmacy was ranked 28th in the nation, and the College of Allied Health Professions’ physical therapy program was ranked 34th.
The UNMC College of Nursing’s Master’s of Nursing program was ranked 61st in the country, while the Doctor of Nursing Practice program was ranked 53th. U.S. News also ranked UNMC 62nd in research.
U.S. News sent surveys to 185 medical schools to compile its primary care and research lists. It ranked 236 schools for master of nursing, 171 for DNP, 134 for pharmacy and 237 for physical therapy.
“I’m pleased that UNMC continues to appear among the top primary care programs in the country, as well as being ranked in other areas,” said UNMC Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. “These rankings reflect the dedication and hard work of our faculty and students. UNMC strives to deliver world-class education in every aspect of its medical, health care and nursing programs.”
U.S. News does not re-rank every program every year. Last year, the physician assistant program tied for 15th out of 170 programs in the nation, and the master’s of public health program tied for 56th out of 177 schools and programs.
“We are gratified that so many of our programs are nationally ranked among the very best in the nation,” said Dele Davies, M.D., senior vice chancellor for academic affairs. “These rankings are a reflection of the strong dedication of our faculty, students and staff in making UNMC the most learner centered health science center in the nation. Our primary care rankings in particular continue to reflect our strong commitment to meeting the needs of underserved parts of rural and urban Nebraska in partnership with the communities we serve.”
