College of Nursing to host its annual drive for Food Bank

The UNMC College of Nursing is hosting its 2020 Annual Charitable Drive benefitting the Food Bank for the Heartland BackPack Program, March 2-20.

The drive is being promoted by the General Staff Organization membership and engagement committee.

One in five children in Nebraska and western Iowa under the age of 18 is at risk for hunger. The BackPack Program supplies packs filled with healthy food for children to take home on Friday afternoons. Each pack contains two breakfast cereal bowls, two entrees, two shelf stable milks, one juice and one fruit pouch.

The Food Bank for the Heartland BackPack Program distributes more than 8,000 packs to children in need each week in 247 schools across Nebraska and western Iowa.

The college’s goal is to raise $1,000. As of March 6, $645 had been donated. Make a donation.
