April 22 is Administrative Professionals Day

April 22 is Administrative Professionals Day.

UNMC will celebrate Administrative Professionals Day with a special event on April 22 at the Truhlsen Event Center in the Sorrell Center.

Administrative Professionals Day is a day observed yearly for recognizing the key role secretaries, administrative assistants, receptionists, and administrative support professionals play in organizations.

UNMC administrative professionals received an invitation via email this week for the April 22 event, which will consist of two opportunities to attend identical sessions — a morning session, from 8:30-11 a.m., and an afternoon session, from noon-2:30 p.m. Participants are invited to register to attend one of the sessions and will need to bring their UNMC ID badge to the event for check-in.

“Administrative Professionals Day is another opportunity to show support staff how much they are appreciated for the work they do every day,” said Linda Cunningham, associate director of human resources. “Each year, HR works with a committee of dedicated administrative professionals to plan this special event. Our goal is to honor their work and commitment to UNMC with an event that is fun to attend and includes some professional development, good food, and networking opportunities.”

The theme for the 2020 Administrative Professionals Day event is “Here’s Looking at You.” It will feature a community service project — a collection of unneeded eyeglasses, sunglasses, accessories or hearing aids. Attendees can bring donations to the April 22 event or send them in campus mail until April 24 to Giovanni Jones, ZIP 4232. There will also be a donation box outside Room 3013 in the Student Life Center for use anytime.

The headliner for the Administrative Professionals Day event will be The Backline Comedy Theatre. The Backline is a long form improv training center where local comedians perform improv, standup, sketch, talk shows, etc. Campus and community organizations will also participate in both sessions.

Based on feedback from last year’s survey, the committee has implemented some changes. Both sessions will feature presentations by The Backline Comedy Theatre.

Administrative professionals are asked to RSVP by April 6 to either the morning or afternoon sessions.
