Meghan Sheehan, M.D., is a new faculty member at UNMC.

  • Name: Meghan Sheehan, M.D.
  • Hometown: Odessa, Texas
  • Title and department at UNMC/Nebraska Medicine: Assistant professor, UNMC Department of Psychiatry; consult liaison psychiatrist, Nebraska Medicine

Research/professional interests: As a consult liaison (CL) psychiatrist, I focus on the care of complex patients with both psychiatric and medical needs. I work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary role to ensure excellent treatment for some of our most vulnerable populations. I am passionate about psycho-oncology, and reproductive psychiatry and am actively working to expand our services and research. I am also working with trauma surgery to create a novel support program for victims of violence in our community. Finally, my work allows me to foster my professional interests in medical ethics and healthcare equality.

How I fell in love with psychiatry: In truth, I fell in love with all of medicine. All specialties held new information for me to learn and patients to treat. In determining a specialty, I realized that the critical, common thread was caring for patients. Psychiatry allowed me to follow that thread until I understood the tapestry that made the patient, the person. CL psychiatry allows me to take that understanding of patients back to other specialties and in turn continue to foster interdisciplinary care for the whole person.
