The UNMC College of Pharmacy Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, in conjunction with presenters from several pharmaceutical companies, is holding its annual academia-industry workshop in the coming weeks. This year’s theme is 2020 Pharmaceutical Technologies in Drug Discovery and Drug Development, set for March 16-17 in the Truhlsen Events Center. Registration is free.
The workshop will provide an overview of the role of various functions in the evolving pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry associated with research and development of novel drug, biologic and cell/gene therapies.
Top speakers from Novartis, Merck, Velesco Pharmaceutical Services, CRC Pharma, and Sannova Analytical, Inc., will preside over a handful of sessions. Attendees also will be able to participate in panel/small group sessions directly related to career development essential to the pharmaceutical industry.
Gangadhar Sunkara, Ph.D., senior global program clinical head of Novartis Pharmaceuticals, organized the workshop with pharmaceutical sciences faculty Aaron Mohs, Ph.D., and Yazen Alnouti, Ph.D. It is part of an ongoing effort under department chair Ram Mahato, Ph.D., to build bridges between academia and pharmaceutical industries in order to translate research and provide opportunity for UNMC alums and scientists.
