Departure process begins for some in National Quarantine Unit

Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts will join other state, local and federal officials at an event today to mark the beginning of departures for several people being monitored for the coronavirus in the National Quarantine Unit.

Thirteen people arrived on the UNMC/Nebraska Medical Center campus Feb. 17 for monitoring after being evacuated from the Diamond Princess cruise ship off the coast of Japan. Two other people from the same cruise ship arrived for monitoring the following week, bringing the total being monitored here to 15.

Along with Gov. Ricketts, this morning’s 9:30 a.m. event will feature providers from UNMC/Nebraska Medicine and two people who have been quarantined here since Feb. 17.

The event can be viewed on Facebook Live.
