Sasha Shillcutt, M.D., professor in the UNMC Department of Anesthesiology, will be interviewed today on the Hallmark Channel’s “Home & Family” show, which can be seen at 9 a.m. The episode also will be available for viewing following the initial airing on the show’s website.
Dr. Shillcutt will speak about her new book, “Between Grit & Grace,” which will be released on Feb. 25. The book offers lessons “from bossy, caring, fearless, vulnerable, relentless, forgiving, smart, humble women at the top (to) show readers how to fuel strengths, how to be fierce and feminine leaders, and how to nurture their authentic selves.”
“I have experienced this myself: trying to be more, do more, and learn more,” writes Dr. Shillcutt in the book. “Be more of a leader, but not too strong. Be more collaborative, but not too inviting. The message to women is clear: be more. I wrote this book to challenge the status quo. I wrote it for women to take one big collective breath and say . . . we are enough.”
Dr. Shillcutt’s company, Brave Enough, focuses on empowering women to excel in their personal and professional lives. It grew from a popular blog she created that dealt with the challenges of being a woman physician as well as a mother.
Dr. Shillcutt has published nearly 40 scientific papers in research journals, including a creative nonfiction piece in the Journal of the American Medical Association. “Between Grit & Grace” is her first book.
Dr. Shillcutt was recognized by the American Medical Association Women’s Physicians Section as one of 2016’s Inspirational Physicians.
