iEXCEL to host simulation showcase today

The iEXCEL team has hosted several showcase events on campus. Here, Pam Boyers, Ph.D., (center) associate vice chancellor for clinical simulation for iEXCEL, checks out the featured technology.

Hosted by UNMC’s iEXCEL, Operative Experience will be at UNMC today (Feb. 19) from 7 to 9 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m. for a showcase in the Sorrell Center Simulation Lab.

There will be demonstrations of Operative Experience’s Damage Control Laparotomy, a fully-operative damage control surgical skills simulator, which features realistic, soft-tissue organs including spleen, bowels and liver.

The simulator can be incised, dissected, retracted and sutured using standard surgical instruments. It also has a pulsatile, pressurized bleeding system and operable wounds including ruptured spleen, lacerated liver, lacerated vena cava, lacerated bowel/mesentery and lacerated diaphragm. The simulator features replaceable organs for repetitive practice.

Attendees will have the opportunity to provide feedback related to the simulator’s relevance for training, usability and realism.
