Director’s message: Translating dreams into actions

Karoly Mirnics, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Munroe-Meyer Institute

With the new year under way, we simultaneously celebrate our achievements and keep our eyes on the horizon. We are expecting an eventful and exciting 2020. Setting goals, developing plans and dreaming big are important, but not sufficient. We must find a way to translate the dreams into actions and live up to our full potential.

Our goals are lofty. To mention only a few “big rocks,” we plan to bring our new home to near completion, finish reorganization of our autism services, improve care coordination, establish new services, expand our reach into the communities and school systems, and recruit exceptional providers.

It will take hard work, dedication of many individuals and a caring community. Yet, I must emphasize that it will be a fun and exciting journey — and there is no limit to what we can achieve together.

I would add: a comprehensive arts plan into all the service areas….recognizing the value of the arts in building social skills, creative thinking, heightening self esteem, promoting recognition of the services of MMI…and so much more!
