UNMC and the University of Nebraska at Omaha will sponsor a dodgeball tournament Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. at UNO’s Health & Kinesiology Building, 6323 Maverick Plaza.
Teams of six to eight people may join for $150, or an individual may join a team for $20. All proceeds go to the American Heart Association. There will be two competition levels, “Competitive” or “Recreational,” in order to be more accommodating of different skill levels.
There will be prizes for:
- the winning team;
- the best-dressed team;
- the team with the best shirt design; and
- the team with the most heart.
To register, visit the American Heart Association website or text DODGEBALL to 71777. For more information, please contact Rachel Larson at 402-810-6854 or by email.
Why support the tournament?
- Research: Currently, more than $1 million in American Heart Association research grants are being invested for projects at UNMC and UNO. Despite these grants, many highly meritorious scientific projects were shelved due to lack of funding, deferring the knowledge that would result from their completion.
- CPR: The American Heart Association trained more than 92,000 Nebraska residents over the past year in the lifesaving skills of CPR and first aid.
- Congenital heart defects: The American Heart Association led the effort to have all newborns screened for critical congenital heart defects with pulse oximetry before leaving the hospital.
- Nebraska mission: Lifeline: Through Nebraska Mission: Lifeline, the American Heart Association has led the development of statewide systems of care for heart attack patients.
- Workplace health: The American Heart Association is working to increase healthy food options throughout the metro, providing workplace wellness resources, raising the age to purchase tobacco products and creating safe places to walk, run and bike.
