Nebraska Medical Orchestra to perform on Dec. 18

The Nebraska Medical Orchestra

The Nebraska Medical Orchestra, under the direction of Matthew Brooks, D.M.A., will perform on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Durham Outpatient Center Atrium.

The concert will celebrate the season with many winter holiday favorites, including “Suite” from “Polar Express,” “March of the Toys” from
“Babes in Toyland,” and familiar carols in “Christmas Festival” and “The Festive Sounds of Hanukkah.”

The orchestra will welcome Olga Smola, a UNO faculty member, as featured violin soloist on two short works by Tchaikovsky. UNO graduate student Michael Tyree will be conducting a number of works at the concert.

The performance is free and open to the public with easily accessible parking in Lot 50, which adjoins the west side of the Durham Outpatient Center.

A collaboration between the UNO School of Music and UNMC, the Nebraska Medical Orchestra is a 50-member volunteer orchestra open to all health care-related musicians in Nebraska, including students, staff, and faculty from UNMC, Nebraska Medicine and Children’s Hospital & Medical Center.

Anyone interested in joining can contact Dr. Brooks, UNO director of orchestras, via email.
