Regents approve acceptance of gift to MMI

On Friday, the University of Nebraska Board of Regents approved the acceptance of a gift to increase the scope and budget for the Munroe-Meyer Institute’s new facility near the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Scott Campus.

Acceptance of the $6 million gift will allow construction changes that will provide enhanced services for clients at MMI.

The anonymous gift was presented by a donor to support MMI’s efforts to broaden therapeutic options at its new facility, said Melonie Welsh, community engagement director for the institute. The gift allows construction alternates, including an enclosed splash park and a gymnasium addition.

“The new Munroe-Meyer Institute building will be a unique patient experience, and this gift will allow us to offer even more therapeutic services to families as we work to transform the lives of people with disabilities and complex health care needs,” Welsh said. “MMI wishes to thank the donor, whose gift will enable us to provide even more therapeutic options to the people we serve. This is only the latest generous gift to this project, and we at MMI have been overwhelmed by the community and philanthropic support we have received.”

The budget for the renovated building now is slightly more than $91 million.
