Regents approve expanded role for Vice Chancellor Bartee

Bob Bartee, vice chancellor for external relations at UNMC, will take on an expanded role at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO). Effective Nov. 1, Bartee will serve as vice chancellor for external relations for both UNMC and UNO. The Board of Regents approved the appointment at its meeting Friday.

In his new role, Bartee will oversee UNO external relations while continuing current responsibilities, such as advisory support to Chancellor Jeffrey P. Gold, M.D. UNO’s Office of University Communications and the State and Community Relations Office will report to Bartee. The UNMC Department of Public Relations, Alumni Relations Office and Government Relations will continue to report to Bartee.

Bartee has broad and deep experience in external relations, having served as chairman of the board of several organizations, including: Destination Midtown, Wellness Council of the Midlands, Omaha Community Partnership, the Nebraska Chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Nebraska Health Coordinating Council. He currently serves on the Board of History Nebraska and the State Historical Society Board of Trustees. He also is a member of the nominating committee for Chief Justice of the Nebraska Supreme Court.

Bartee received the 2005 Marvin D. Swede Johnson Achievement Award, jointly bestowed by four national associations of higher education for lifetime achievement in governmental relations. He also received the Welcome T. Bryant Memorial Award for service from the Urban League of Nebraska, Inc. Bartee also was honored as the 2010 Nebraska Career Education Distinguished Partner, primarily for his role in developing the High School Alliance.

Bartee is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Syracuse University’s Maxwell Graduate School of Public Affairs.
